Project description
At WWTP Achern different pilot and full-scale studies are conducted to upgrade understanding of enhanced phosphorous and organic micropollutants removal (supported by simulation software SIMBA# 3.2). Therefor powdered activated carbon is dosed directly into the activated sludge process. Several process setups are tested in pilot and full-scale studies focusing following research questions:
- Required PAC dosage to achieve similar results compared to post-treatment
- Appropriate dosing strategy for direct PAC addition into aeration tanks
- Effect on activated sludge process by increased sludge production as a result of PAC dosage
