Monitoring
The department operates monitoring stations at various locations at water bodies and at stormwater treatment facilities.
Sampling concept
For many years, the department uses so-called Large Volume Sampler for this purpose. A Large Volume Sampler consists of a 1,000 l stainless steel tank, a sampling pump suitable for the sampling situation and a control unit that enables volume-proportional sampling. The control unit processes the flow or water level signals and switches on the pump after defined volume intervals to collect subsamples. A float switch prevents overflowing of the tank. The entire system is placed in an enclosure.
The advantages of this concept are:
- Long-term sampling at the water body is possible
- Events can be captured completely
- Solid samples with sufficient mass for further analyses can be produced.
- Preparation of composite samples is not necessary
